Progress toward fostering doctoral students who will contribute to the development of innovations

  Chuo University has been selected for the "Support for Pioneering Research Initiated by the Next Generation (SPRING)." SPRING is a program supported by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) with an aim to help doctoral students and promote the following three points;

1. to support doctoral students to conduct research they prefer which is challenging as well as integrative, and free from existing frameworks,
2. to provide a stable and continuous environment over several years in which doctoral students can concentrate on their research, by providing them with a sum equivalent to their living expenses,
3. to guide outstanding doctoral students to become doctoral human resources who can be active in diverse career paths.

  Chuo University proposed the program "Chuo Promotion for Research Activities in Doctoral Courses (D-CPRA)." The program aims to create innovations that will take root in people's lives by "constantly looking ahead to the future society and the issues it will face in the coming decades, conducting research into what society should be like, and introducing the research achievements into society," as well as to foster individuals capable of carrying out such innovations. Through this, the program holds a vision to contribute to nurturing and increasing the number of excellent professionals responsible for the future of innovation in our country.

  In order to realize the vision of this program, Chuo will cultivate advanced knowledge and competencies in specialized fields while integrating the tradition of education and research in the humanities and social sciences based on the foundation of the Igirisu Horitsu Gakko (English Law School) with education and research in science and engineering, regarding the graduate students. In addition, we will nurture a) the intellectual foundation to promote cross-disciplinary cooperation, and b) the competencies to lead teamwork in all aspects of society through initiative, cooperation, and leadership.
